Open Critical Friends Group (CFG) Meeting: Wednesday, June 24

Open Critical Friends Group (CFG) Meeting
Wednesday, June 24, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; Brighton Campus TCC (12-201)

Curious about CFG’s?  Haven’t been able to commit yet?

Come to an open CFG meeting to get a taste of the experience.  Maybe you’ll love it and want to join one in the fall.  Maybe you don’t have time during the semester but still want the opportunity to reflect on your practice.  Everyone is welcome.  We will develop quick norms and participate in a couple of protocols (CFG-speak for a structured discussion).  Please RSVP to Gena Merliss (
emerliss@monroecc.edu).

Typically Critical Friends Groups meet consistently throughout the year to build a trusting environment where we can deeply examine our work in a supportive environment.  We will be running several groups in the next academic year, please look out for opportunities to join.

CFGs are “trans-formational learning communities fiercely committed to educational equity and excellence.” -- School Reform Initiative mission statement

Critical Friends Groups are a nationwide professional development model established to improve student learning and success by supporting educators reflecting on and improving their practice.

CFG’s are led by a trained facilitator and use structured protocols to look at:
·         curriculum
·         teaching dilemmas
·         student work
·         peer observations
·         pivotal moments
so that participants can provide each other with specific and actionable feedback.
