MCC Guide to Writing Research Papers Ready for Fall Semester

The MCC Faculty and Students will have a fresh research tool available for them as they begin the fall semester. The New Guide to Writing Research Papers, published in 2000, was updated and expanded. The former edition contained in Part A the essential explanations for writing research papers, and in Part B it gave examples for the types of resources used by students most often in three documentation styles: APA (American Psychological Association Style); CBE (Council of Biology Editors Style), and MLA (Modern Languages Association Style).

The MCC Guide to Writing Research Papers, published in 2006, contains updated Part A and Part B with four styles of documentation: ACS (American Chemical Society Style); APA (American Psychological Association Style); CSE (Council of Science Editors Style, formerly the CBE Style), and the MLA (Modern Languages Association Style). The 2006 edition of the MCC Guide to Writing Research Papers was written by Stasia J Callan, English/Philosophy Department; Mary DiSano, Chemistry and Geosciences Department, and Ann P. Penwarden, ETS: Libraries. Ellen Z. Gozik, Coordinator, Graphic Services, designed the print version, and Mary Timmons, DCC Librarian, designed its electronic version

The re-writing of the MCC Guide to Writing Research Papers was funded by 2005-2006 Instructional Development Grant and Educational Technology Services. Frank Rinehart, Dean of Science,Health and Business; Chet Rogalski, Dean of Liberal Arts, and Peter D. Genovese, Director, ETS Libraries, supported the efforts to produce an up-to-date guide recognizing its importance in the instructional process at MCC.

MCC Printing Services printed the MCC Guide to Writing Research Papers. It will be sold in the MCC Book Store and available online through the MCC Library.

Initially, copies of the MCC Guide to Writing Research Papers will be distributed to the following departments: Chemistry and Geosciences, English/Philosophy, Nursing, Psychology, Transitional Studies’ English Instructors, and WAC Instructors.
