MCC anthropology students excavating the on-campus Bittner farmstead were visited on Wednesday, July 21, by film crews from local media who arrived for a site tour. The 1820's farm on college property was first discovered by David Day in 1973. The current summer session archeological field school is being conducted by anthropology adjunct Dr. Ann Morton who's overseeing the field crew. Students showed reporters their most recent "finds" including what they believe to be a cat burial, a rifle butt, the back wall of the house foundation, and colorful fragments of ceramics once used by farm occupants. Afternoons are spent in the lab cleaning and cataloguing artifacts, working on individual student research projects, and updating site reports.
