Free Self-Care Activity - Tues. Feb. 14th - Healthy Relationship/Friendship Valentine’s Day Cards

Tuesday, February 14 a card making activity will be held in the Flynn Campus Center Atrium from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., hosted by RESTORE and the Counseling Center. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, meet the RESTORE advocate and counseling staff members, or just gather some easy self-care ideas. We will be making healthy relationship/friendship Valentine’s Day cards!

Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted.

1 in 5 women and 1 in 16 men will be sexually assaulted before college graduation.

90% of sexual assaults are committed by someone the survivor knows.

These numbers indicate that we all know someone who has been sexually assaulted. As a supportive friend, something as simple as beginning a conversation about sexual assault can lead a survivor to seek support. Recognizing this, MCC partnered with RESTORE Sexual Assault Services, a free and confidential resource for students who have been sexually assaulted, regardless of when the incident took place.

Last fall marked the first semester with RESTORE on campus. Karly Nocera is RESTORE’s advocate at the Brighton campus, and students can meet with her in her office next to the Counseling Center on Tuesdays and Fridays, or by appointment. At the Damon City Campus, students can meet with RESTORE advocate Nicole Posluszny on Mondays or Karly Nocera on Thursdays.  Their office is room 5242.

To reach Karly – call (585) 210-9490

To reach Nicole – call (585) 210-8532

To contact RESTORE’s 24-hour hotlines – call (585) 546-2777 for Monroe county, or 1-800-527-1757 for Genesee, Orleans, Livingston, and Wyoming counties.

Working with a RESTORE advocate enables students to make informed choices regarding medical, legal, and counseling needs. Students can access resources, attend short-term counseling sessions, and receive support through the reporting process. Most assaults go unreported, often influenced by the fact that the survivor knows their perpetrator. We recognize the courage it takes to come forward, but for those who are unsure about reporting, our services are available regardless of the decision to report.

If you or a loved one has been affected by sexual assault, please feel free to stop by our offices or call.
