Bringing Back the Black Student Union at MCC

Students, Faculty and Friends:

We are organizing the Black Student Union (BSU) at MCC again and we are looking to recruit all interested students who would like to join BSU to have a powerful presence on this campus.

The BSU, formerly known as the Association of African American Students became a recognized student group in October 1993.  Membership ranged from 70 to 90 students who strived to help black students advance and represent the social and intellectual aspects of black culture. The mission of BSU is to aid in the growth and development of MCC students through a series of culturally, socially, and academically focused discussions and programs from a unique African-American perspective.

Being a part of BSU allows students to engage in community service, campus involvement, and professional development, allowing students to overcome all challenges faced and to succeed in all facets of life. BSA aims to develop and promote unity within the minority community and have a voice here at Monroe Community College.

Please join us on Tuesday, October 14th in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Empire Room) from 12 noon to 1pm.  We will talk about organizing members, programs and recruitment.  It is important for students to voice their opinions and get involved in organizing this important organization.  Faculty and staff are also invited to attend.

Please contact Shirley Batistta-Provost <
mailto:Sprovost@monroecc.edu> or come to the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development to confirm your presence at the meeting by October 10th.

* We will have complimentary pizza.
