Eighth Year of Volunteering at ZooBoo for Upward Bound Students

Saturday, October 10th and Saturday, October 31st, represent the eighth year of MCC Upward Bound involvement with the Rochester Seneca Park Zoo fall fundraiser. Twelve MCC Upward Bound students offered up their Saturday afternoons to volunteer at the Seneca Park Zoo for the annual fundraising event “ZooBoo”. Superheroes, firefighters, scary ghosts and fairytale princess characters all made appearances. The Halloween attire ranged from creative to scary. The event gives kids the opportunity to explore the zoo while collecting stickers, puzzle pieces and candy along the way.

Our MCC Upward Bound volunteers were assigned such tasks as greeting families, opening doors, applying temporary tattoos and handing out treats. They also had the chance to play a game of toss with some of the kids who passed by.

This experience gave our MCC Upward Bound students the opportunity to volunteer for the Rochester community. Community service is a way for our MCC Upward Bound students to engage within their community while strengthening their résumés for college. Volunteering connects them with their community and with each other. Furthermore, the students gain community service credits for their Government and Economics classes.

Thank you to our volunteers for their participation!
