Scholarships Awarded on the Spot at Homecoming 5K

Two students will be randomly selected to receive $250 scholarships following the Monroe Community College Foundation’s 3rd Annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarships, Saturday morning, Sept. 26 on the Brighton Campus. The event is part of Alumni Week and Homecoming 2009 sponsored by the MCC Foundation and the Campus Activities Board.

The walk/run is open to the college community and general public. Tickets are $18 per person for those who pre-register and $23 for walk-ins. Tickets include a commemorative T-shirt and hot buffet lunch in the Alumni Tent at Lot G. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m.; President Anne Kress will officially start the race at 11 a.m. Prizes for men’s and women's tops finishers will be awarded.

People can participate at whatever fitness level they’re comfortable with—whether walking or running. Although the race will be clocked for race time, participation, and not winning, is the goal. We invite everyone to come out and support our students.

During the tailgate party and lunch immediately following the race, the names of current students representing the Brighton and Damon City campuses will be selected to receive scholarships. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must participate in the race and be currently enrolled at MCC.

To register for the 5K walk/run or to preview all Alumni Week and Homecoming 2009 events, call the MCC Foundation at 262-1500, email <email:kshaw@monroecc.edu> or visit
