Coverage of Start of Spring 2021 Semester

This week, local and cable TV stations announced MCC's first day of classes for the spring 2021 semester. MCC promoted piloting the HyFlex program and enhancing support services for students, including through the CircleIn peer studying app.  As determined by the instructor, Hybrid Flexible ("HyFlex") classes offer students, on a given day, the choice to learn in-person, via Zoom during class time (synchronously), or through Blackboard outside of class time (asynchronously). Many thanks to Dr. Douglas and Dr. Wade for handling media interviews.

If you missed the Jan. 24 Rochester In Focus program, here are key takeaways from the interview with Dr. Douglas.

On on-campus safety protocols:

-- "We are doing everything we can to keep our campus community safe during this global pandemic."

-- "I can say from our fall experience that our students have been very compliant. They want to be back on campus and they want to be safe."

On HyFlex learning options:

-- "One of the things that we've learned through this Zoom experience is that students are expecting incredibly more flexibility."

On CircleIn study groups:

-- "One of the things that we've seen in our data consistently is that when students work together in study groups, they do better."

-- "We now have three semesters of data (spring, summer and fall 2020). ... and every semester, more students are using it and more students are succeeding in their classes. In fact, CircleIn has asked MCC to be the showcase for the nation."
