Join us May 11th for Creative Writing Reading and Celebration of Writing Events at the Library

We welcome you to continue celebrating the scholarship of MCC students by attending the following Scholars’ Day events at the Library!

Small Eternities: A Creative Writing Capstone Reading

May 11th, 2PM – 3PM, 4th floor LeRoy V Good Library

Eight students in their final semester of the Creative Writing program will share the experiences and skills they’ve gained that allow them to participate in the art of expressing themselves through writing. The pieces they read will test boundaries and explore familiar tropes from new angles to entertain and provoke thought. They are reflective, haunting, and humorous, exploring the realities that we all face in our lifetimes. We are all story tellers and we all live, every one of us, in the stories told by others. This event will enthrall lovers of stories both fantastic and grounded, filled with honest meaning and the enchanting lies of burgeoning voices, stories meant to hang in that place where the clouds of daydreams linger. The reading will be introduced by Creative Writing Professor Maria Brandt. Then, these eight emerging writers will read their original work, giving them an opportunity to practice public speaking and to have the significant experience of conveying their work to a live audience. You’ll hear pieces written with passion, imagination, and that show an amazing array of talent. Come support our graduating students, and enjoy an afternoon of new literature!

Celebration of Writing

May 11th, 3PM – 4:30PM, 2nd floor LeRoy V Good Library

Please join us for this college wide showcase of student writing! Nineteen MCC students will present their written work (academic and creative) at this open forum. With a set-up similar to a science fair, the Celebration of Writing event will give students the opportunity to share their voice with a friendly and supportive audience, encouraging dialogue as a path toward developing intellectual curiosity.
