Spring 2007 Attendance Update

After reading my colleagues's  Deb Benjamin's Tribune articles about withdrawals and grades I decided that trying to be as creative as she is is  going to be quite a challenge but I will keep trying.  For today I would like to inform you of two items about this Spring's attendance.

First.... I am going to request in the next few days  that letters be sent to students and faculty for ALL attendance reporting for this  Spring 2007 semester.  As you know I ask for attendance data for full semester courses  first and then for the varied length and late start courses at a later date.  This semester, in  trying to fine tune this attendance process (which I will never see in my lifetime!), a few glitches reared their ugly heads.  In an effort to make sure that all the students' attendance information is accurate especially before grades are due, I decided to run the entire program again.  Better be safe than sorry!  Please check the letters you receive against your records and let me know of any discrepancies.  You may either call me at Ext. 2291 or my assistant Lori at Ext. 2247.

Second....if you see a "9" in the Attend Hours column on the attendance screen  DO NOT CHANGE IT,  It is an in-house  code our office uses telling us NOT to drop the student for financial reasons.  You are limited to using  ONLY a "0" or "1" in the Attend Hours field.  Would you believe I get 2's, 6's and whatever.  I know why I love this job...there is never a dull moment!  Also congratulations to the varied length/late start faculty.!  There were only 18 of you on the naughty list.  I will be collecting attendance information right up to the end of the semester so if you have not submitted yours no matter if it is a full-semester, varied length, late start, or did not even start yet  course still record it on the attendance/grade screen if you can.  Remember if you have already submitted a "W" " or graded an entire class and your grades have been rolled to history you will not be able to submit attendance through Banner for Faculty. In that case email Lori or myself your information and we will take it from there. We will need the course name, the crn number , student M #,  and whether they never attended (0) or stopped attending before your course's census date along with the student(s)' last date of attendance.  We will assume that all remaining students in that class are attending.

As always I thank you for your promptness. your accuracy and most of all for your support.  .   Ginger.
