You're Invited: MCC's Third Essential Discussions, September 17

I hope you have had an enjoyable summer! I am pleased to invite you to MCC’s third Essential Discussions: Conversations at MCC, “Learning by Design – New Students, New Classrooms, New Technologies. The colloquium will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm at MCC's Brighton Campus.

Shirley Dugdale, principal for Dugdale Strategy and an active presenter at both SCUP and EDUCAUSE, has agreed to be our morning keynote speaker. She will speak about the ways in which emerging educational technologies and emerging student populations/expectations are reshaping our colleges—virtually and physically—and defining learning.

Our afternoon speaker Joan K. Lippincott, Associate Executive Director, Coalition for Networked Information, will highlight those emerging educational technologies that are reshaping colleges and defining learning for the digital generation.

In addition to our keynote speakers, two response panels will address the opportunities and challenges faced by colleges and communities when creating learning spaces appropriate to 21st Century Learners – and beyond.

It seems all of us are being continually exhorted to “rethink” and “reimagine” higher education.  This is a perfect time to connect the dots between redesign and real student learning, so we hope you will join in this important discussion with colleagues from SUNY campuses across New York state, representatives from Rochester area colleges and universities, partners from local school districts, and community leaders.
