MCC Chapter of AAWCC Recognized as Model Chapter

The national organization of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) has named the MCC Chapter of AAWCC as the 2005 Model Chapter.  The AAWCC Chapter Award recognizes an official AAWCC chapter and its members who have made a significant contribution to the campus environment on behalf of women.

As a founding member and former chapter president, Dr. Susan Salvador accepted the award on behalf of the chapter at the annual AAWCC Awards Breakfast on Monday, April 11th, during the AACC Convention in Boston, Massachusetts.

In accepting the award, Valarie Avalone, MCC Chapter President, commented:  “Community college women are making a difference in their institutions and their communities.  At Monroe Community College women from all levels of the college are involved with our chapter.  Proving to be a vital force, they have stepped forward to provide leadership, offer time and energy to assist and mentor others, and make sure women within the institution are supported and recognized.  As President for 2003-2005, I am privileged to be leading such a capable group of professional individuals.  On behalf of the Monroe Community College chapter, I would like to thank AAWCC National for recognizing us as this year’s Model Chapter.  We are honored and proud to accept this award.”
