Gateway to College at MCC Info Sessions

If you know a young person who has dropped out of the Rochester City School District or you know an applicable place (like your church) to highlight this information, please share the following details on MCC’s Gateway to College program.

Dropout Recovery Initiative Holds Session on How to Enter College
Gateway to College at Monroe Community College will conduct an information and orientation session from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in Room 4093 at MCC’s Damon City Campus, 228 East Main Street.

The session is for young people interested in enrolling in the program starting in the Spring 2008 Semester. Classes will begin Jan. 22. Interested individuals must call 262.1480 to sign up for the session and bring their completed application when they attend. During the session, an assessment will be given and only those who meet eligibility requirements will be invited to apply for the program.

Forty-four students enrolled in MCC classes this past fall as part of the Gateway to College dropout recovery initiative. In partnership with the Rochester City School District, Gateway to College offers for 16 to 20 year olds who dropped out of school, a second chance at receiving their high school diplomas while attending college and earning college credits. Students who live in the City School District need a minimum eighth grade reading level.

Gateway to College is a replication project developed by Portland Community College (PCC) in Oregon and made possible by a generous donation from the the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in partnership with Carnegie Corporation of New York, Ford Foundation and W. K. Kellogg Foundation.

For more information on the program and to get an application, call 262.1480 or e-mail <mailto:gatewaytocollege@monroecc.edu>.
