Nyerges, Students Perform All Over Town!


Assistant Music Professor John Nyerges took two MCC music students with him to perform with his trio at a concert to benefit Kendall High School Music program this past Friday night March 13. They were Ryan O’Loughlin on drums and Dexter Redic on bass. The band program at Kendall HS is run by none other than MCC Alumnus Joe Pompili, '04. Mr Pompili is an outstanding saxophonist and teacher.

Others in attendance were the Brockport HS jazz Ensemble “Bluenotes”, the Brockport Community Jazz Ensemble, and hosted by the Kendall Jr. High and High School Jazz Ensembles. Nyerges sat in with the Kendall HS Jazz Ensemble at the end of the evening. During Nyerges’ trio set with his MCC students, Joe Pompili sat in on saxophone to perform an original composition by Nyerges, making this a special moment for the 250+ crowd in attendance.

On Sunday March 1 , Nyerges also performed with the RPO and nationally known trumpeter/vocalist Byron Stripling during a Sunday Matinee concert.

Important future concerts include :
April 5 concert at 3:00 PM–Nyerges is the pianist for NEJO (New Energy Jazz Orchestra) based out of RIT and performing in Ingle Auditorium.

April 17 Jazz series at Immanuel Baptist church (park Ave) at 7:00 PM – Nyerges’ Quartet will perform original music from his “Jazz, Pictures & Poems” 2007 CD which can be heard on WGMC 90.1 FM. The MD there is Rob Linton, MCC graduate and one of Nyerges’ former students and former DJ at WMCC.

June 19 RIJF (Rochester International Jazz Festival) 6:00 PM, Main Tent – Nyerges Quartet will again perform original music from his “Jazz, Pictures & Poems” 2007 CD. He has played with 7 different bands as a sideman at the RIJF but this is his first as a leader.
