CSTEP Students Present Posters at State Conference

Twelve highly engaged students, who are all pursuing STEM disciplines at the College, have returned from the CSTEP Annual Statewide Student Conference held April 12-14, 2013 at the SAGAMORE Resort in Bolton Landing.  Three of these students submitted their research posters and were selected to compete among students at leading two and four year schools throughout New York State.

Below are the abstracts of the student posters:

Ignatius Ukatu - Cationic Peptides as a means to improve Cellular delivery of Peptide Nucleic Acids (PNA).

Clementine Namba - L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia by targeting serotonin 5-HT1A and 5HT2A receptors in hemi-parkinsonian rats.

Gerald Noble - Aminopeptidases are exopeptidases that remove an amino acid from the N- Terminus of peptides and protein substrates.

Moreover, students participated in professional development workshops, networked with CSTEP directors, and celebrated their accomplishments.  The MCC CSTEP program is fortunate to have such outstanding talented students participate in pursuing their dreams in Science. We salute their hard work and accomplishments during their tenure at MCC.  They are all outstanding scholars!

CSTEP is funded through a legislative grant by the New York State Education Department and has been at MCC for over 25 years.  The mission of CSTEP is to increase the numbers of individuals who are underrepresented or economically disadvantaged to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), health and licensed professions. MCC CSTEP students have gone on to pursue Bachelor, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in these fields.  Many have also gone directly to a CSTEP-target field upon graduation from MCC.
