Let's Talk About It!

As previously announced, the American Library Association and Nextbook have awarded MCC Libraries the prestigious Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature – Identify and Imagination grant.  The award will finance a five-part book discussion series of works examining the diverse literature of the Jewish experience. Of the offered themes, MCC Libraries have chosen Between Two Worlds: Stories of Estrangement and Homecoming.

The first book discussion in the series, examining Exodus: The Second Book of Moses, is right around the corner! Join us in what will undoubtedly be a fascinating discussion of the ultimate story of Jewish longing for home and identity, as the Israelites wander in a vast, unfamiliar desert for decades, uncertain if all this talk of a promised land will ever turn into reality. The discussion will be held in the Forum, in the Campus Center on the Brighton Campus, September 11, 2007, at 6:30 pm. The discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Barbara Lovenheim, recently retired from MCC’s English/Philosophy Department.

The dates and titles for the complete series are:

Sept. 11, 2007: Exodus: The Second Book of Moses

Oct. 2, 2007: Lost in Translation: Life in a New Language -- Eva Hoffman

Oct. 23, 2007: The Centaur in the Garden -- Moacyr Scliar

Nov. 13, 2007: Kaaterskill Falls -- Allegra Goodman

Dec. 4, 2007: Out of Egypt: A Memoir -- Andre Aciman

Copies of the series books are available in the MCC Libraries, the Monroe County Public Library system, the MCC Bookstores, and the Pittsford Barnes and Noble.
