College Update on COVID-19 Testing Efforts & Cases

Monroe County announced 511 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, Nov. 29. The seven-day rolling average of new cases is 5.73 percent. NYS considers most of Monroe County within orange warning and yellow precautionary zones.

  • Orange Warning Zone restrictions are in effect at MCC's Downtown Campus and Eastman Business Park (skilled trades apprenticeship-related programs). Unless you are deemed as essential staff by your President's Cabinet representative, do not report to those locations and plan to work remotely until you have tested negative for COVID-19. Classes taught from those locations will be delivered remotely until Dec. 3, 2020. Students, faculty and staff must participate in pooled testing sessions this week. *
  • Yellow Precautionary Zone restrictions are in effect at MCC's Applied Technologies Center, Brighton Campus, Public Safety Training Facility, and at our welding program at Rochester Arc + Flame Center. Online, remote and limited in-person classes will continue as scheduled at those locations. Students, faculty and staff may return to these locations today, Nov. 30 and then must participate in pooled testing this week. *

To date, MCC has conducted 3,357 pooled tests. Since Monday, Nov. 23, the Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) confirmed 17 positive cases among MCC students and employees. Contact tracing is complete and people who need to quarantine or isolate have been notified. According to MCC Health Services:

  • 0 students are isolating on campus
  • 25 students are isolating off campus
  • 40 students are in mandatory quarantine (on and off campus)
  • 0 students are in precautionary quarantine

If the MCDPH indicates that additional steps need to be taken, we will update you immediately. MCC is unable to legally disclose any further details or personal identifiable information about these students and employees per federal privacy laws.
