The Civility Project: Making Courtesy Common

Can anyone believe that it is October already?  It’s time for pumpkins, mums, golden leaves, and trick or treating. It’s also the perfect time to think about civility.  This year, the Civility Committee is going strong – we have already done a mini campaign in the Terrace/Marketplace area to get the word out about our new logo and new direction.  We have a two week traveling campaign about Domestic Violence that starts mid-October – it will be located in-between Admissions and Advising and then in the North Atrium and at DCC the last week of October.

As a Civility Committee, we are always looking for ways to make MCC a more courteous and safe place to visit, work and go to school. We created a new logo which we believe embraces the community in a more positive way – making our committee “The Civility Project” and keeping it an ongoing campaign throughout the year instead of only focusing on civility one or two times.  We are very excited about some of the initiatives that we are working on!

If you have ideas for the Civility Project, please feel free to share them, or if you already have civility-related projects occurring in classes or with your clubs/orgs, let us know! We would love to partner with you or bring light to your events as we promote civility every day on campus.

So this fall/Halloween season, as you are handing out candy and hopefully smiles and cheerfulness, think of how we can create a cheerful, respectful atmosphere on our campus and let us know your thoughts!  Also - watch out for us on campus and support our campaign!

Thanks!
