Commencement 2014 – Volunteers Needed

MCC Commencement 2014 is scheduled for Saturday, May 31 at 9:30 a.m. (note the new start time) at the Blue Cross Arena.  We are happy to announce that we have made some changes to this year’s ceremony.  There will be a two-line student processional and a faculty procession after the candidates are seated.  The faculty seating area will be on the main floor of the arena in the middle section between two student sections. There will be a double-line ceremony with two faculty readers announcing names on each side of the stage.

Another modification to the process this year is that graduates will be required to pick up their caps and gowns ahead of time from the bookstores.  Caps and gowns will no longer be available at the arena on the day of the ceremony.  Please reiterate this to any students you may encounter asking questions about Commencement.

As in past years, Faculty Marshals are needed to help align students properly in the marshaling and seating areas.  If you have not already submitted your name to volunteer, please consider volunteering to make this a great day for all our graduates and their families.

Academic Services will be providing a faculty breakfast for faculty participating in the Processional and they are asked to report to the Faculty Marshaling Area – Riverside Lounge (follow signs) at the Blue Cross Arena by 8:00 a.m. for breakfast, robing and alignment in Processional lines.

Parking is available in the Civic Center Parking Garage, South Avenue Garage, and open lots in the area.

Please respond by e-mailing or calling Dawn Quatro at: <mailto:dquatro@monroecc.edu>, Ext. 2122 if you are interested in marshaling students and indicate the program you would like to assist.  Marshals are to report to Denise Klein in the Candidate’s Marshaling area (located by the student check-in area in the basement of the Blue Cross Arena) no later than 8:00 a.m. Breakfast will be provided for volunteers as well in the basement. If you have not contacted us already, please be sure to let Dawn Quatro know that you are planning to Marshal, EVEN IF YOU HAVE MARSHALED IN THE PAST.

Thank you for helping make this a very special day for our graduates and their families.
