Peace Officers Arming

With each new semester that begins at MCC, it is important to remind ourselves of the safety practices put in place in order to assure a healthy and safe learning environment. Many of these practices with regards to traffic, fire alarm activations, and evacuation procedures are outlined in the student and faculty/staff handbooks.

One of the changes you are likely to notice this semester is the arming of Peace Officers. MCC Peace Officers have been armed under certain circumstances since 2008. As of Tuesday, September 3rd, MCC peace officers will be armed at all times while on duty, not just under certain distinct circumstances.

The safety and well-being of our college community and visitors is our top priority. This expansion of our program and complete arming of our peace officers maximizes our ability to maintain the safest environment possible. This shift in practice has been the focus of a college-wide discussion for nearly two years and is supported by the student governments at both campuses, and a variety of student and employee groups.

We welcome any questions or comments with regards to this change, and look forward to a safe and inspiring semester here at MCC.
