Tuition Rate Increase for 2022-23

Like many colleges and universities across the nation, MCC and community colleges in general face an array of financial challenges for years to come.

  1. Significant increase in operating expenses due to high inflation.
  2. Institutions called upon to provide more and more wraparound services to support student success with a College budget that does not keep pace with rising costs.
  3. No additional operating support from local/state government in the enacted budget.
  4. College enrollment decline.

As a key driver in the economic recovery of our region, MCC plays a critical role in meeting the changing and diverse needs of residents and businesses to help build stronger communities and provide upward opportunities for all. MCC is committed to providing access to an affordable, high-quality education to residents across all ZIP codes.

MCC’s $4,756 full-time, in-state tuition rate for 2022-23 is the third lowest among the 30 SUNY community colleges. The tuition increase of $25 per semester is supported by Monroe County and student leaders who understand the financial challenges facing MCC and other colleges. MCC’s Student Government Association unanimously approved a resolution in spring 2022 for the adoption of the tuition increase.

We expect that the direct cost of attendance for 2022-23 will be more than covered by available federal and state aid. The maximum amount of financial aid awards exceeds $12,500, consisting of Federal Pell and New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) awards capped at $6,895 and $5,665 respectively. Beyond Pell and TAP, many of our students also receive scholarship support. In 2020-21*, the MCC Foundation provided over $1.1 million in scholarship aid to our students. Over 55 percent of students graduating in 2020-21* left MCC with no debt.

Without substantial and sustainable government investment in MCC and community colleges, it is our students who are often left to make up the shortfall. Monroe County as the College’s sponsor seeks, as do we, to keep MCC affordable for students. We will continue engaging with elected officials and advocating for government support that addresses the needs of MCC students and the community.
