Workforce Symposium: The Future of the Technician Workforce Study

MCC's Economic and Workforce Development Center (EWDC) has been funded by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation to conduct a study that seeks to better understand the impact of Industry 4.0 technologies on the future of the middle-skilled technician workforce within the Finger Lakes region. The EWDC has partnered with the Nexight Group to assist the College in conducting this research and in compiling a report of the findings that will be published to the community early next year. The inputs from this workshop are essential to preparing the next generation of technician workers with in-demand skillsets in the use of flexible, intelligent, and autonomous technologies.

The workshop is part of a larger effort to:

  • Determine the impacts of Industry 4.0 and transformative technologies on Finger Lakes regional businesses.
  • Identify the future technological competencies, knowledge and skills of the technician workforce required by employers across multiple industry sectors.
  • Identify partnership and investment opportunities in workforce training and education.
  • Inform the revision of existing, and development of new, technical training and applied academic programming at MCC, within integrated IT, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and skilled trades.
  • Inform the design and program mix of the Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center.

The invite only symposium will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Wegmans Center. It will be a one-day, strategic planning workshop, made-up of over 80 representatives from industry sectors including advanced manufacturing, agriculture & food processing, healthcare, industrial automation, and IT.
