Student Services October Professional Development Programs

Greetings to all. The Student Services fall professional development series is starting this week.

If interested in rsvp-ing for any of the sessions listed below, please email Pam Rende (prende@monroecc.edu) and you will be sent a private zoom link. All employees are welcome.

I. MANAGING DISTRACTIONS WHILE WORKING FROM HOME

As most employees continue to work from home, this session offers an opportunity to reflect on the things that distract one in life, and strategies on how to minimize the distractions and become more productive while you work from home. Although designed for the current work situation, the information provided equally pertains to working on campus.

II. FIVE PRINCIPLES TO GOVERN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE

With all of the uncertainty at MCC and in higher education, this is the ideal time to reflect on your career path. This presentation will cover guiding principles that are applicable to all careers. Even if you plan to remain in your current position until retirement, this session will provide ideas and information to enhance your current role.

Linked-In is an incredible tool for career enhancement. Please join us as we review the power of Linked-In for career enhancement, personal branding, secondary areas, and professional development.

IV. USING THE DISC MODEL TO ENHANCE YOUR EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Emotional intelligence is now considered a key component of effective leadership, personal effectiveness, and career advancement. For this session, attendees will be provided a DISC assessment in advance that will help increase self-awareness and enhance one's ability to connect more effectively with others.

Wednesday, October 21st Noon to 1:00 pm

V. EFFECTIVE ZOOM MEETING FACILITATION

Each employee has transitioned to working from home and the ubiquitous Zoom meetings. While the technology makes virtual meetings possible, the mode of communication can also prolong meetings and increase disengagement. This session will provide insights and tactics on how to make Zoom meetings more efficient, effective, engaging, and enjoyable. Although designed for the Zoom meeting, this presentation offers sounds advice for all meetings.

VI. THE IMPACT OF STORY TELLING IN A VIRTUAL WORLD

History professor Mark Sample will co-host this discussion on how to incorporate stories into the classroom, meeting room, and all aspects of life to increase impact and enhance influence.
