Taking Vacation Time is a Form of Self-care, Update on Summer Flex

As colleagues across MCC develop a return-to-work plan, we do so with your safety and well-being at the forefront of our decision making. Recognizing the uncertainty of our return-to-work schedule, we know you have questions regarding the use of vacation time and the ability to work a summer flex schedule.

Taking a vacation day during this time of working from home is a form of self-care that alleviates the constant pressure of trying to juggle the competing interests of our personal and work lives. We encourage you to take your scheduled vacation days. It is important to shut down our remote working location and take time for ourselves and our families without the interruption of work. We all need to take a break from email and the pressure to be responsive and available in our jobs.

That leads us to the topic of summer flex. College leaders have looked at summer flex from all perspectives and have determined that, in the current remote work environment, offering summer flex will not be possible this year. The bulk of the College community is currently working flexible work hours from flexible work locations and we, unfortunately, can't predict when a return to campus will occur. I know this news may be disappointing and cause concern for the future, so I want to assure you that this decision is being made based on the current and unprecedented circumstances and is not intended to be applied to future years.

Dedicated employees like you are our greatest strength. We need all of you to assist the College and our students as we rebound from the effects of the pandemic. The College recognizes and appreciates the efforts and commitment of our employees. These are trying times and the resilience of our College community is nothing short of remarkable. Thank you for all you do to support our students and their success.
