Shadow Day Success for MCC Upward Bound and Liberty Partnerships Program

On Veteran’s Day, 21 Upward Bound students got a real taste of college life at MCC through its 6th annual Shadow Day, a collaboration between Upward Bound and Liberty Partnerships Program. Students sat in on college classes (including “Chemistry of Indulgence” and “Child Development Psychology”), which sparked plenty of academic interest. Through discussions on racial theory, labs involving yeast reactions, and group work on social services scenarios, the students experienced lively engagement with current college students. Sophomore Raven Hall affirmed, “Shadow Day makes you feel as if you’re a college student, and you learn lots of new things!”

In addition, students also participated in workshops on navigating relationships with professors, college terminology, and financial aid. The workshops proved useful to students, as senior Ani-Vreh Whyte noted “I really liked learning how to  write professional emails to professors—I’m actually going to use this in college!” Shadow Day was once again filled with useful learning and helpful college experience.
