Puerto Plata Delegation Visits MCC

On July 31, Monroe Community College welcomed a delegation of city officials, legislators and business people from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Hosted by Diane Cecero (President’s Division/Diversity Council) and Joann Santos (CSTEP), the delegation discussed partnership opportunities and toured the Brighton Campus.

The delegation was invited to Rochester by Mayor Bob Duffy “to reaffirm the 1997 sister cities agreement between Rochester and Puerto Plata.” Santos serves as a volunteer on the Puerto Plata-Rochester Sister Cities Committee. The Sister Cities Program was initiated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower “to encourage Americans to communicate with people around the globe and for communities to bond together by engaging in projects that are mutually beneficial.”

Thanks to the President’s staff, Jorge Alas (ESOL and Foreign Languages), Jacqueline Mendez (CSTEP), Shirley Batistta-Provost (Campus Center), Ramon Rodriguez (Financial Aid), Jenny Lorenz (Nursing) and student leaders for helping to make our guests feel welcomed.
