April 26 Conference at DCC, "Community Empowerment: It takes All of Us"

Dear MCC Colleague,

On Saturday, April 26, 2003 you are invited to attend “Community Empowerment: It Takes All of Us.”  This free conference is sponsored by the Human Service Department.  It is supported by the Division of Academic Services, Interdisciplinary Programs, Office of Workforce Development and the Damon City Campus.

This conference represents the vision and dedication of four Human Service 202 classes.
Fall 2002 students began this vision and Spring 2003 students are implementing the plan.
This conference represents the best practice of experiential and service learning.

Our conference will begin with a continental breakfast where we invite you to mingle with students, colleagues and our guests representing various community agencies and organizations.

Our keynote speaker is Dr. Cedric Alexander who currently works for the Rochester Police Department.  Our keynote address will be followed by two series of six different workshops ranging from representatives of our religious communities, neighborhood organizations, programs for victims of crime and violence to programs for offenders.

A pasta luncheon buffet will follow the workshops.  After the luncheon buffet you will have the opportunity to listen to and dialogue with Dr. Cedric Alexander, Mr. James Norman, the Executive Director of Action for a Better Community, Iris Banister, Rochester City Schools, Moses Robinson, School Resource Officer for the Rochester Police Dept. and our own Dr. John Walker.

Please share this workshop information with your students and encourage them to attend this event.  I have attached a copy of the registration material which you may feel free to duplicate and hand out to your students.  Anyone interested in attending should print out the registration form and send it to me through inter-office mail.

I look forward to seeing you and your students on Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 8:30 a.m. at the Damon City Campus, Monroe Community College.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at extension 1633.

Sincerely yours,
