MCC Hosts 31st Annual Paper Session of the Rochester Academy of Science

Congratulations to the organizing committee that hosted the 31st Annual Paper Session of the Rochester Academy of Science at MCC on Saturday, November 6.   Over 50 talks and posters were presented by professional and amateur scientists from around the Finger Lakes region including faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, high school students, and members of the community.

Four MCC students were among the presenters.  Each had an opportunity to talk about the research they did as part of summer research programs available to MCC students.

·       Kendra Denson gave a talk titled Preparation of Silver-Coated TiO2 as an Antimicrobial Agent for Surfaces in Public Toilets.

·       Luis Henry presented a poster To See or Not to See:  Visual Acuity With and Without Adaptive Optics.
·       Tia Washington presented a poster The Aminopeptidases of Soybean Seedlings.
·        Pierce White presented a poster Assessment of TRAF-6 Localization in Intestinal Epithelial Cells after IL-1 Stimulation.

Two MCC faculty also presented.
·       Richard Stevens of the Department of Biology gave a talk titled Evolution of Sexual Size Dimorphism in American Minks (Mustela Vison).

·       Richard Hamell gave the Larry King Memorial Lecture.  His topic was The Cardiff Giant – the Gypsum Sculpture That Became America’s Greatest Hoax.

This was a wonderful event for the community to learn about a wide range of science exploration being done around the community.
