eSport Teams Set for Playoffs

Monroe Community College eSports is poised for a championship run in several games after a successful inaugural regular season.

The Tribunes competed in the following titles: Valorant, Fortnite, Hearthstone, Smash Bros, Rocket League, FIFA, and Madden. In total, 36 players competed for the Tribunes this past fall, with Valorant, Fortnite, Hearthstone, and Smash Bros players earning playoff spots this coming week.

HEARTHSTONE

Seth Wagner (Adolescent ED/Community Engag. & Develop) secured the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming Hearthstone tournament after finishing the regular season with a 7-1 record. Wagner earned 3-0 victories over Garden City Community College and Kishwaukee College to reach the top overall seed.

FORTNITE

Dan Tantalo (Electrical Tech/Applied Science & Tech) is the early favorite headed into the Fortnite championship invitational match tonight. Tantalo won two regular-season tournaments to lead the competitive field.

VALORANT

Valorant sponsored two teams this season, but it indeed was a team effort overall. Each Valorant squad finished with a 5-3 record; however, Valorant-1 earned the No. 6 seed because of tiebreakers, while Valorant-2 fell just short of the playoffs finishing 10th overall. Both teams shared players throughout the regular season to help earn their top 10 finishes.

SMASH BROS

Smash Bros had four players complete the season, with Gabriel Collalto (Gen. Studies/Business & Entrepren) leading the way finishing the regular season with a 6-2 record and ranked 8th out of 176 players. Collalto will move on to the championship tournament as the No. 8 seed and take on the 25th seed from Arizona Western.

ROCKET LEAGUE

The MCC Rocket League team finished with a 3-5 record and ranked 28th overall, securing wins against Kishwaukee College and Snow College.

FIFA SOCCER

Alexander Herold (Hospitality Mgmt/Hospitaliy Mgmt) finished the FIFA season with a 3-5 record, including wins over Carl Sandburg College and Iowa Central.
