On behalf of the College Readiness Council, MCC is excited to announce our upcoming Film Screening of the award-winning documentary Teacher of the Year. This thought-provoking film asks audiences to question the dominant image of the teacher as a "Hollywood hero" and instead consider the enormous dedication of real teachers at work. Watch the all-too-typical trials of one teacher's life in a suburban North Carolina classroom as the film raises questions about faculty workload, the many misperceptions of teacher efficacy, and the political climate of teaching professionals in 2018.

Andrew Simmons from The Atlantic writes that "Teacher of the Year offers an authentic portrait of a teacher's life in the context of an academic appraisal of Hollywood's familiar model: that of the heroic teacher performer, usually an untrained outsider who, encountering the resistance of skeptical peers, gets inspiring results."
