Beware of Social Engineering

Last week I attended a conference called HackersFest 2009.  The keynote speaker was Chris Nickerson, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) whose main area of expertise is focused on Red Team Testing and Social Engineering.

Red Team activity is any set of activities that deal with an unannounced assessment of security and readiness by an unfamiliar team of operators with no awareness or support from the assessed target.

Social engineering is the act of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information.

Chris is hired by companies to find weakness in their security.  This is done in order to help the companies better defend and protect their critical data and key information systems.

In the 4 part video below, Chris Nickerson leads the Tiger Team in finding weaknesses in their company’s security. The Tiger Team videos show how they were able to break in and steal a Lamborghini without being detected.  Pretty impressive or should I say scary.

See how easy it was to find the information they needed to infiltrate the building and access critical information.
