Teaching Tips from Your TCC

The TCC is offering two webinars on the Damon City Campus in October:  Teaching Critical Thinking for Academic Success, Career Readiness, & Personal Development (Oct. 3) and Easing the Transition to College:  Helping Students Become Self-Regulated Learners (Oct. 17). Both are from Innovative Educators. We will have campus-wide access to the recordings for one year and will be able to offer an unlimited number of viewings by all faculty and staff afterwards, but if you’d like to join us for the live event, both webinars are from 3-4:30 in Room 5-270 on the Damon City Campus . Details about each of them are below.

Wednesday, October 3 ~ 3:00-4:30pm

Business and university studies consistently cite the absence of critical thinking in graduates’ workplace readiness and lifelong learning skill set. We know critical thinking is important—but perhaps we have become so immersed in the why of critical thinking that we have forgotten about how to do critical thinking. This session examines how to use video, music, text, and exciting interactive activities to foster your students’ critical thinking skills across the curriculum for academic and personal success.

Wednesday, October 17 ~ 3:00-4:30pm EDT

Teachers and parents often guide students through the K-12 learning experience. While this support can be seen as a helpful tool during primary and secondary education, these students often experience difficult transitions when they are suddenly expected to be self-directed and self-motivated upon entrance to college. Engaging with these students and helping them to become self-regulated learners in the college environment is critical to their success.
