Learning To Breathe: An Open Opportunity For Building Understanding And Encouraging Healing

The death of George Floyd and the video of the incident is heartbreaking. This action, compounded with the recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, has left many of us feeling angry, frightened, and disillusioned. These violent incidents and the lived experiences of so many others highlight the prevalence of oppression still found in our society. We see the impact of this trauma on our TVs, social media, and across the internet, as protests express outrage over the persistent injustices experienced in communities throughout our nation.

Please join us on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, from 12:00 - 1:00 PM via zoom for this critical discussion. Members of the college community will have an opportunity to submit questions in advance of the meeting to diversity@monroecc.edu. And, time permitting, we will open up the discussion to allow for additional comments. It is essential to empower our community to increase our capacity to LISTEN, UNDERSTAND, and take an ACTIVE ROLE in creating a better-lived experience for those most impacted, historically, by economic and social inequity.

According to Gautama Budda, "Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world." I look forward to our conversation.
