Summer/Fall Semester 2021 Return Plan

We are excited to share with you MCC’s Summer/Fall Semester 2021 Return Plan. Our plan adheres to SUNY’s required COVID-19 health and safety protocols and has been reviewed by the Monroe County of Public Health. This plan is a “living document” and will continue to evolve as we respond to changes in federal, state, SUNY and local guidance.

The plan will be shared with students and the general public next week.

Thank you to those colleagues whose work and feedback brought us to this inspiring moment! Thank you especially if you taught and worked in person at a time when many of us continued to serve students remotely. Kudos to Matthew Lawson (Admissions) and our Peer Navigators for welcoming eager students and families during our absence and for the success of recent, sold-out Admitted Student events!

MCC is going to look and feel different until more colleagues and students return.* It is important for us to remember and adhere to our values: integrity, excellence, empowerment, inclusiveness, collaboration and stewardship. These values will help guide our return to more in-person work, learning, and services. We demonstrate our values by being respectful, flexible, and compassionate in our behavior and responses to each other’s needs and those of our students.

Key Plan Highlights:

  • MCC continues to be reasonably conservative in its approach to safely increasing in-person learning and service options due to the presence of COVID-19 variants in the United States and abroad.
  • Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 will help protect you and the college community. At this time, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory for students to access campus, but getting vaccinated prior to the fall semester is strongly encouraged. Faculty and staff will be invited to voluntarily provide verification of vaccination starting in August in order for us to report only aggregate data. (Vaccine-related information will remain confidential, protected and separate from employee records.)
  • Permission is no longer required for faculty and staff who want to come to campus.
  • Students should continue to make appointments with MCC offices before coming to campus in order to control office flow, avoid lines and maximize students’ time.
  • Summer guidance requires the continued wearing of masks at MCC campuses and sites.
  • Fall guidance goes into effect on August 2 before the start of the semester.

Our ability to stay nimble is key to our success. We will update our plan in response to local health and safety conditions and updates to SUNY guidance. More information will be added and communicated as we define processes (e.g., telework policy and protocol) leading up to the first day of fall classes on August 26. Your questions are welcomed at covid19@monroecc.edu.

I enjoyed greeting staff in the Admissions; Registration & Records; Advising, Testing, Transfer and Veteran Services; Financial Aid, and MCC Association offices on Monday, July 12 and look forward to the opportunity to meet more of you in person this summer and fall.

*MCC recognizes that the transition from working remotely to returning to campus may be stressful for some faculty and staff. MCC’s Employees Assistance Program Services (EAP) offers confidential help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for MCC employees and family members. Contact Human Resources with questions.
