Call for Hanson and Professional Service Award Nominations


Nomination Packets for the Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence and the MCC Award for Excellence in Professional Service are requested by 5:00 p.m. on Friday March 26th, 2010. 

In selecting persons for the Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence and MCC Award for Excellence in Professional Service, there must be specific indications that the candidate performs superbly in fulfilling the job description for the position held.

As members of the Professional Development Committee of the Faculty Senate, we are particularly eager to see specific evidence and examples that support and clearly demonstrate high achievement in each the following areas:

The Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence

Mastery of classroom performance and teaching techniques
Continuing Concern with intellectual growth of individual students
Active engagement with student learning
Maintenance of high academic standards in the classroom
Currency and growth in field

The MCC Award for Excellence in Professional Service

Achievements related to job description
Adaptability to institutional needs
Professional recognition, achievements and service
Innovation and initiative
Professional leadership

          We are interested in recognizing those individuals who not only meet the criteria listed above, but who consistently exceed these criteria in a creative and innovative fashion. Please provide specific examples in support of the criteria.

Please note the following:

·         Those eligible for the Hanson Award must be full-time tenured faculty with academic rank who have 8 or more years of service with MCC. Classroom instruction must be at least ½ of their normal annual workload for the current academic year.

·         Those eligible for the Professional Service Award must be administrators, counselors, librarians, professional staff and MCC tenured faculty members for whom classroom instruction is less than ½ their normal annual workload. Eight or more years of service at MCC are required.

·         The nomination form must be completed. Nomination Forms may be obtained either from the MCC website at:

<"https://www.monroecc.edu/">, A-Z Index, F- Faculty Senate or from the Chair of the Faculty Senate Professional Development Committee. The site is currently being updated.

·         A candidate for any award must be nominated by two (2) members of the College community (MCC faculty, MCC employees, MCC students).  Candidates may not nominate themselves.

·         Members of the College community may nominate or second the nomination of only one person for any award.

·         Members of the Professional Development Committee, previous recipients, and the Vice President and President of the College are not eligible for any of the awards.

·         Nomination packets, including all support materials, should not exceed 15 pages in length.

·         Twelve (12) copies of the Nomination Packet must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010. All materials should be submitted to Carmen Powers, 5-214; (585)292-3367.
