Rochester Parent Network Transitions to New Name: “292-Baby”

Jim Coffey and Mary Louise Musler, faculty members who also direct the Rochester Parent Network, continue their work to get Rochesterians talking about babies. The organization has begun transitioning its name to 292-Baby to familiarize more parents and care givers with the free helpline. 292-Baby is a community consortium administered by Monroe Community College.

Following is an update of 292-Baby activities since fall 2006:

A) 292-Baby is now a United Way designated organization. Please keep the number “2406” in mind when designating your United Way gift this spring—it's close to the top of the list of organizations!

B) The “Best of Parent Talk hosted by Jim Coffey” continues to be cablecast on Time Warner Cable Channel 4 at 9:00 pm weekdays. Breast feeding expert Dr. Ruth Lawrence will be a regular guest on new, live, call-in shows beginning the first Monday n April. Time Warner now offers “Parent Talk” segments on Rochester On Demand (cable channel 111).

C) Jacqueline P. Cady, chair of the Early Childhood Development Initiative (ECDI) will be a regular guest on “292-BABY NEWS” a monthly, 30-minute news show that will report early childhood happenings in our community monthly (10 times a year) beginning this month. Last year, ECDI and the Ad Council worked with 292-Baby representatives on the “Sing, Talk, Play” campaign that quadrupled calls to 292-Baby. (Nearly 40 percent of the callers reported that they called after seeing the commercial or brochure.) Like 292-Baby, ECDI aims to mobilize the community to expand and improve developmentally appropriate early childhood services to ensure that every child in Rochester and Monroe County has the foundation to succeed in school and in life.

D) The 292-Baby marketing committee is working with Strong National Museum of Play to develop a space within the museum that educates parents and caregivers regarding appropriate practice and the role of play in early childhood.

E) The <<
https://www.292baby.org>> Web site is ready for public launch and its salient feature is to serve as a virtual “meeting place” in its forums section for all who care for our youngest children. Forums are available for parents in eight developmental stages (eg birth to three months) as well as breastfeeding parents, grandparents and foster and adoptive parents.

F) Last but not least… the organization now has a new logo (below) thanks to volunteer Jim Gresko!

Remember to tell parents and child care providers you know that 292-Baby is a free resource that puts people directly in touch with a ViaHealth pediatric nurse to answer non-emergency questions about child health care and development. This service is offered 7:00 am to midnight, Monday through Saturday and from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Sundays.
