PSTC Trains Firefighters in Military

Firefighters from various military installations may get their lifesaving training at MCC’s Public Safety Training Center.

The PSTC currently is applying for accreditation from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). Accreditation is required by the Department of Defense in order for any military organization to train its personnel. The lengthy process also will give increased stature to PSTC’s fire training program.

If and when IFSAC grants accreditation, about 75 military personnel who serve on Fort Drum’s fire department can learn how to increase survivability in the case of a plane crash at the Fort Drum site. Currently, PSTC trains about 400 firefighters a year on crash rescue.
