Adventures in Wikiland: The Wild World of Wide-Open Web Collaboration - Audioconference

MCC will host the ITC audioconference entitled "Adventures in Wikiland: The Wild World of Wide-Open Web Collaboration" scheduled for Tuesday, April 11 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in Board Lounge. Presenter Brian Lamb, Project Coordinator and Instructor at University of British Columbia will look at how wiki pages transform the relationship between author and reader by allowing anyone to change the page. They promise to similarly shake up the roles and assumptions of teachers and students. The talk will summarize how and why wikis work. It will also deal with common objections to using them, focusing on the technical, logistical and philosophical challenges to integrating open systems into institutional settings. Examples from The University of British Columbia and beyond will demonstrate what becomes possible when users are free to define web structures for themselves. Supplementary materials will be presented within a wiki, and participants are invited to contribute to or sabotage the results in real-time. Disruptive technologists are especially welcome.

To make a reservation please contact Carol Wilkinson via email or at Ext. 3019.
