MCC is Selected for Funding to Serve Students ages 50+

The term “life-long learning” is significantly coming into play as MCC gears up to implement a recently acquired grant aimed at adult students 50 years of age and older, especially baby boomers.  The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) which is spearheading the “50+ Completion Strategy” states that 40 percent of people over age 55 are remaining in the workforce but will need to upgrade their skills to help get hired in jobs that require high skilled and well educated workers.

MCC will join 19 other community colleges throughout the country in a three-year program aimed at helping 50+ adult students jump-start a stalled career or retrain for a new job.  Personnel from Admissions, Counseling and Advising Center, Career and Transfer Center, the Workforce Development Office will serve as members of an advisory council.  If you have questions about the grant, please contact Bill Sigismond in the Office of Adult and Experiential Learning at x3219.
