Larry W. Tyree Named Interim President

The Monroe Community College Board of Trustees today named Larry W. Tyree to serve as the college’s interim president.

Tyree has more than 40 years experience at eight different community colleges in Georgia, Florida, Texas, Kentucky and Kansas, and has served as an interim community college president three times. He has led some of the most respected community colleges in the country—Dallas Community College District, Santa Fe Community College, and Johnson County Community College, all members of the League for Innovation in the Community College. (MCC is also a member of the League.) Additionally, he has served as president of the board of directors of the American Association of Community Colleges.

“Dr. Tyree brings to this college and this community extensive experience in community college leadership; having served three times as an interim president, he knows how to help colleges find highly qualified, permanent presidents and move forward during times of transition,” said Richard Guon, chair of the MCC Board of Trustees. “He also brings an unbiased, external perspective that will restore confidence in the presidential search process.”

“Monroe Community College is an institution I have greatly admired for the past 20 years,” Tyree said. “I have a passion for the vital work of faculty and staff as they facilitate student success and I believe strongly in the important role of community colleges to enrich the communities they serve. Those are values I see at MCC and I welcome this opportunity.”

Tyree will begin his service in August. His vita is attached.
