Community Fridays for a Cause

The next “Community Fridays for a Cause” is Friday, November 1, 2013.

Honor Flight Rochester, Inc. will be the recipient of donations raised through the November “Community Fridays for a Cause” program.

The Honor Flight Network and the Rochester hub, Honor Flight Rochester, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity, not-for-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for their sacrifices by transporting them to Washington, DC to visit their war memorials. Honor Flight first flew in May 2005 with six small planes flying twelve WWII veterans and has since transitioned the program to commercial airline carriers, to accommodate transporting a greater number of veterans.  There are currently 70 regional hubs.

Honor Flight Rochester, Inc. transports World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington, DC giving them an opportunity to visit with other veterans making the journey, and to reflect at their memorials.  Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.  The average age of the veteran waiting to fly from Rochester is 88 years old. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 640 World War II veterans die each day. The time to express thanks to these brave men and women is running out.

The goal of Honor Flight is to transport every veteran, who otherwise would not or could not travel, to Washington, DC. Honor Flight is free to all WWII and Korean veterans and to veterans from any era, suffering from a terminal illness. The flying season is April to November, with hundreds of local veterans currently in line to take this memorable flight.

Veterans Day is approaching and a time when we show gratitude to our veteran’s for their service to our country.  Please be generous in your donations to support Honor Flight Rochester, Inc. in hopes of giving any veteran who wishes to travel to Washington, DC, the opportunity to do so.  We have our veterans to thank for our freedom!

Don’t forget to dress casually, wear MCC colors and team up to support the our veterans!

Donations will be collected in each department.  All checks should be made out to Honor Flight Rochester, Inc.  Donation envelopes will be available in your department.  Please bring donation envelopes to Jodee Biller in the Controller’s Office no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, November 1st.
