Lois Lowry – Author of The Giver and Number the Stars – Comes to MCC


Beloved children’s author Lois Lowry, two-time winner of the Newbery Award for the most distinguished contribution to American children’s literature, will visit MCC on Wednesday, October 21st.  Lowry’s works are acclaimed for their lovingly rendered characters and provocative plots.  With over 35 published books spanning several genres, she is renowned for her sensitivity when exploring challenging subjects like euthanasia, sexuality, physical disabilities, and the Holocaust.  Lowry is the author of two popular series that chronicle the experiences of young girls, Anastasia Krupnik and Gooney Bird, and her first picture book, Crow Call, was just released.  She was the 1990 winner of the Newbery Award for Number the Stars and again won the prestigious award in 1994 for The Giver.

Lowry’s visit kicks off this year’s Visiting Scholar Series and is co-sponsored by the Creative Arts Committee and the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project.
