Horan Receives Mathematics Department Award for Adjunct Excellence in Teaching

Sean Horan is this year's recipient of the Mathematics Department's Adjunct Excellence in Teaching Award. This year's honoree possesses a Master of Science degree from Utica College. He joined our adjunct faculty team in the fall of 2011. Sean's passion for teaching, his focus on building deep conceptual understanding, his effective use of digital tools, and his ability to fully engage students in the learning process make him highly deserving of this award.

As a gifted educator, Sean connects well with students. His work in the classroom centers on motivating and inspiring students to learn. In his most recent classroom observation of a Statistics I class, Associate Professor Michael Wagner shared "Sean has excellent classroom management skills. The students were attentive and participating, and the atmosphere was highly conducive to learning. Sean has excellent rapport with his students. He is clearly proficient at teaching using technology, which is very important in the field of Statistics."

Sean was chosen from over 50 adjuncts by a committee which included past recipients Thomas Reichert, John Tumminelli, Cindy Smith, Jan Funkhauser, David Herbst, Warren Knapp, James Cala, Olga Tsukernik, Carrie Gaida, Katherine Amann, David Jehle, Olena Malanchyn, Stephanie Wisnowski, and Carlo Atene; the adjunct coordinator, Linda Carson; and Department Chair Annette Leopard.
