MCC Launches New Mobile Computer Lab for Employers

Several hundred workers are expected to be trained every year – without having to leave their company to get it.

MCC's new mobile computer lab, through Workforce Development, can travel to area companies to train employees on-site. A $25,000 state grant from Sen. Jim Alesi, 55th District, funded the purchase of laptop computers and software for the mobile lab.

“Access is the most common barrier to on-the-job training,” said Chuck Caples, Workforce Development program coordinator. “The time and money it takes to send employees to a different site can prevent training opportunities.”

The mobile lab allows MCC to bring the technology to a company and conduct training sessions for up to 11 students each session. Training will be designed based on the employer’s needs. For example, a manufacturer who has software installed on CNC machines may want to train technicians to use the Internet.

MCC already is making arrangements with several companies that have expressed interest. The mobile lab is expected to train 250 to 400 workers a year. Employers interested in using the mobile computer lab can call 585.262.1430 for more information.
