Our web team offers faculty a number of ways to get themselves and their courses online, whether you want to code your own pages -- or want someone else to do the dirty work. Find out the how, who and why behind getting your own faculty site. Facilitated by Dawn Wendt, ETS Computing.

WEB SITES THE MANILA WAY
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3
Do you want a few web pages to help you distribute class notes and homework, make a PowerPoint presentation available on the Web, even conduct an online discussion in a password-protected environment? Do you want to maintain your site anytime and anyplace you have access to the Web, with no tool but your browser needed? Do you want a Web page development tool that lets you start out simple and keep it simple if that is what works for you, but also gives you the ability to do some pretty neat things too? Then maybe you should check out Manila. Manila is an Internet server application that allows individuals or working groups to manage full-featured, high performance Web sites that include options such as memberships and discussion groups, through an easy-to-use browser interface. It has become the tool of choice for several types of Web development projects here at MCC. At this Brown Bag session, Web team member, Carol Burritt will present an overview of Manila features and talk about how to get started with a Manila site at MCC.

TREADING WATER OR SMOOTH SAILING? HOW DATABASES AND THE WEB CAN RESCUE YOU!
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5
Do you feel like you are drowning in a sea of paperwork? Is your file cabinet dragging you under water like an anchor on a ship? Do you wish there was a more efficient way to keep your documents and reports afloat? Well, let the web team come to your rescue. Using databases and the web, we can provide an efficient way for your department to collect and store information. During the Brown Bag session, we will demonstrate a variety of the databases that have been designed for the specific needs of MCC departments. These databases not only streamline departmental work, but also provide more convenient access via the web for employees, students, and the community. We will also answer any questions you have and see if a database will fit the needs of your department. Come participate in this Brown Bag session. Maybe we have a life jacket that’s just your size! Facilitated by Bob Reynolds, ETS Computing

MCC’S WIRELESS NETWORK
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10
Have you noticed the small Wireless HotSpot signs that have been popping up around campus? Wonder what they’re all about? This Brown Bag Lunch Session will discuss current campus HotSpots, how to authenticate, what adapters are recommended for those who don’t already have one, and future plans for wireless. Facilitated by James Clement, ETS Communications and Network Services.

MCC@HOME
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12
Are you currently accessing the mainframe from home using a modem or a high speed service (Road Runner, or Frontier DSL)? If you answered “yes” you will want to attend this session. Over the next few months, MCC will be moving all college network services to a secure network. You will need to install the MCC@Home software in order to gain access to the mainframe from your home PC or laptop. This session is designed specifically for modem users who need mainframe access from home. If you are using a dial up service we will have some CD’s with the software on it to avoid a lengthy download, especially for Windows 98, ME users. This session will cover how this new software works and how to use it to connect to SIS, FRS, CICS and Focus. Come hear our tips and suggestions to ensuring a smooth software installation (safe computing habits, spyware, ad-ware, viruses, and windows updates) and answers to all your questions. Minimum PC Requirements: Win98/ME/2000/XP with a modem connection and basic internet service provider (e.g. Frontier, Blue Frog, EZnet, EarthLink, etc.).
