New Counselor: E. Jamal Watkins


I am pleased to announce that Mr. E. Jamal Watkins has been appointed to a counselor position in the Counseling and Advising Center.  "EJ" received his M.S. in Counseling and Education and his B.S. in Communications from SUNY College at Brockport, and his A.S. from Monroe Community College.

Mr Watkins brings a wealth of experience to the Counseling and Advising Center from a variety of settings.  He most recently worked for the University of Rochester Medical Center/Strong Memorial Hospital as Director of the Rochester Community Mobile Crisis Team (RCMCT), Department of Behavior Health.  In this role, he trained staff and the community on mental health issues (i.e., diagnosis, crisis intervention, mental health resources, etc.).

As Director of Youth Services for the Charles Settlement House, Mr. Watkins worked with youth ages 14 to 21 providing individual and group counseling, vocational, and career counseling.  He also worked in the Jordan Health Centers Mental Health/Substance abuse program as a vocational rehab/substance abuse/mental health counselor.  Mr. Watkins has held positions such as a counseling specialist on family and crisis intervention team (FACIT) for the Rochester Police Department; he was a resource/site manager for Rochester New Future Initiative/Change analyzing and recommending changes to positively impact youth/families in the City of Rochester.  Mr. Watkins is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Member of the national Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).   He is a certified Law Enforcement Mental Health Trainer and member of the International Critical Incident Stress Management Institute.

We are fortunate to have Mr. Watkins as a member of our counsling staff.  Please join me in welcoming him to the College.
