RE: September 21, 2002 Seeds of Success Program Workshop

I thought I would take a moment to remind you that our students still have an
opportunity to attend the Seeds of Success Program workshop which I will
conduct on Saturday, September 21, 2002.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you for the contributions you make to
student success at MCC.

SEEDS OF SUCCESS PROGRAM (SOS)
Dr. Ron Kostecke

Dear Student:

My name is Ron Kostecke and I have been a counselor in the Counseling Center at
Monroe Community College since 1970. In 1987, I helped create the Seeds of
Success Program to assist people to deal with the rigors of being students at
our College. If you need to improve your study skills, get nervous on exams or
feel overwhelmed by the demands placed upon your time, I encourage you to read
the rest of this page.

You are invited to attend (free of charge) an SOS workshop at Monroe Community
College (Brighton Campus) on:

Saturday, September 14, 2002, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., Room 5-300
OR
Saturday, September 21, 2002, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., Room 5-300

In one two-hour session, I will teach students who are willing to participate:

1. How to relax during exams and focus on the questions that are asked.

2. Study skills techniques. I will teach the SQ3R method (how to study
from textbooks), how to take notes, where to study, how to prepare for exams,
how to concentrate and how to make studying active as opposed to passive.

3. How to manage and budget time.

4. Test sophistication: knowing how to take examinations.

You should attend the workshop on September 14, 2002 or the one which will be
held on September 21, 2002. Those who have participated in the past have
demonstrated reduced test anxiety and improved study habits and academic
achievement.

If you would like to take part, please report to Room 5-300 at 2:00 p.m. on the
Saturday of the workshop that you have selected. You do not need to bring
anything with you, should dress casually and understand that the session will
take place in a most informal and relaxed atmosphere. You may park in Faculty
Parking Lot A in front of Building 5.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
