Military Students Deployed for Hurricane Sandy

At the end of last week, several of MCC’s National Guard students were deployed to lend their professional skills to Hurricane Sandy response efforts.

Please understand these were short-notice orders, and many students may not have had a chance to give their professors any warning regarding their absence.

As those students are federally obligated to fulfill such orders, I encourage you to work with them when they return and help ensure their continued opportunity for success. If there is any guidance the Military Mentoring Program could provide in terms of how to engage your military students regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me at your convenience: "mailto:hwilliams@monroecc.edu"

Also please remember, there are several resources available on campus to assist faculty and staff to work effectively and thoughtfully with our military students:

Veterans’ Services - Mike Bates, Coordinator
Academy for Veterans’ Success – Prof. Eric Wheeler, Coordinator
STARS Program – Prof. Holly Wheeler, Facilitator

Thank you in advance for the consideration you extend to these National Guard students and the other 900+ military students attending MCC,

Heather Williams
