Ebola: What You Need To Know


Facts about Ebola:

* You can’t get Ebola through the air.
* You can’t get Ebola through the water.
* You can’t get Ebola through the food.

You can only get Ebola from touching bodily fluids of a person who is sick with or died from Ebola, or from exposure to contaminated objects, such as needles.  Ebola poses no significant risk in the United States.

* If you have had a recent (within 21 days) travel history to Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, or Sierra Leone  you should monitor your health for 21 days after your return for fever (101.5 F or 38.6 C) or higher, severe headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain or unexplained hemorrhage.

* If experiencing symptoms, call the Monroe County Health Department for advice about getting evaluated for Ebola virus disease (EVD) at 585-753-5164, Monday-Friday 8-4:30 p.m. or 585-753-5999 after hours.

* Hand washing is the first line of defense from preventing spread of infection.
