Flexible Spending Account - OTC Now Eligible for Reimbursement

Last week, Congress passed the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act). As a result, there are a few items affecting health accounts (FSAs & HRAs).

Certain over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and items can now be purchased using your FSA without a prescription or a Certificate of Medical Necessity form. The CARES Act is retroactively including purchases from 1/1/2020 or later. For complete information regarding this change, a list of eligible OTC items, and how this works, use the link below to access the BRI website. The information can be found under their Blog and COVID-19 tabs.

Please note stated in the BRI information, retail vendors are currently attempting to update their merchandise so that it can be recognized as an FSA eligible item. Depending on the retailer, you may not be able to use your Beniversal card at the time of purchase and may have to submit claims manually. If you have not been in the practice of saving your receipts for FSA purchases and payments, it is highly recommended that you begin doing so should you have to substantiate any claims.
